Spark: A Mother’s Story Of Nurturing Genius

Jacob Barnett was a happy baby…then, at about 16 months, he started to regress…he stopped communicating…his parents took him to the experts…the diagnosis was autism…one therapist told his parents that Jacob might never learn to tie his shoes.

Jacob is now 15 years old and a graduate student in physics.

Jacob’s mom, Kristine Barnett says that she did not simply take the diagnosis and stop trying…she figured out what interested Jacob and gave him those opportunities. He lied stars so she took him to all the planetariums they could get to…

Meanwhile, Jacob taught himself how to read (English, and later braille!)…and when Jacob wanted to start college math classes, he taught himself all of high school math in two weeks.

Jacob and Kristine want to make sure that all kids get the opportunities to excel at what they’re excited about…the spark in their life.
